In this panel detail, the demon king Ravana is flying away with Sita, holding
her around the waist in mid-air. His kidnapping, however, has been seen by the
eagle king Sadayu. Sadayu, appearing here in profile like a dragon with bird
wings and tail feathers, is swooping in from the right.
Sadayu is the son of the mythical bird deity
Garuda, who is the mount of the Hindu god
Vishnu. Sadayu fights the demon Ravana when he sees him abducting Rama’s wife
Sita.
