Panel
This Buddha panel was carved from an antique piece of
wood.
The Buddha is seated on a padmasana or double lotus throne
in the
bhumisparsha mudra or
earth touching touching gesture.
The earth touching gesture symbolizes the precise moment when the awakening Buddha, Shakyamuni,
vanquished the army of Mara beneath the bodhi-tree and summoned the
goddess of the earth, Sthavara, to bear witness to his countless acts of
sacrifice. He has a spire rising
from the top of His
head which symbolizes the Buddha's radiant spiritual
energy. The halo behind the Buddha's head is painted in a beautiful red
and golden contrast. This
panel is perfect
for leaning against or hanging on a wall.
Though the panel was recently
carved it has the appearance of being a true antique. The antique wood used for
the panel, gives the carving an authentic, antique effect!
About the Wood: The
wood used for this panel is antique wood. The artisans purchase second
hand wood beds from locals in or near the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh.
