Wood Buddha Statue
Lord Buddha is seated in Dhyana Asana also known as meditative pose. In
this position the legs are crossed, closely locked with the soles of both feet
visible. He is seated on a Viswapadmasana, a throne or pedestal where the
lotus petals are arranged in a double row. The lotus seat upon which Lord
Buddha sits on symbolizes His divine origin.
He is in
the gesture of giving refuge. The
circle he forms with his fingers symbolizes the taking of refuge as the union of method and wisdom, and
the three extended fingers represent the Three Jewels of the Buddha, dharma, and sangha as the objects of refuge.
The
rosewood is rich in colour with
attractive dark streaks and a
slight purple tinge, a very elegant piece!
This wood
sculpture is a one of a kind statue, hand carved by the artists of Bali,
Indonesia.
