Wood Buddha Statue
Lord Buddha is seated in dhyana asana also known as meditative pose. In
this position the legs are crossed, closely locked with the soles of both feet
visible. He is seated on a viswapadmasana, a throne or pedestal where the
lotus petals are arranged in a double row. The lotus seat upon which Lord
Buddha sits symbolizes His divine origin.
The raised
or threatening forefinger is not actually classified as a mudra, as it is
performed by the forefinger alone, however it is at times referred to as Tarjani
Mudra (Sanskrit) or ward off evil gesture. What is immediately striking
about this piece is its rich colour!
This wood
sculpture is a one of a kind statue, hand carved by the artists of Bali,
Indonesia.
