The Buddha is seated on a double lotus base with his hands in the vitarka mudra or teaching mudra.  The vitarka mudra was the hand symbol Lord Buddha used while teaching his disciples the Dharma.  His closed eyes show him to be completely absorbed in concentration.  His fingers are slender and delicate.  The rosewood is a rich brown color with a beautiful color variation found on his left knee.

This wood sculpture is a one of a kind statue, hand carved by the artists of Bali, Indonesia.
