Lord Buddha is depicted in
Padmasana. In this position, the legs are crossed, closely locked with the
soles of both feet visible. He is wearing a monastic robe and his left
hand is in his lap holding a bowl. He is seated on a single lotus throne
and is in
the
earth touching gesture or
bhumisparsha
mudra.
He is also
commonly known as Shakyamuni or Śakyamuni ("sage of the Shakya clan") and as the
Tathagata ("thus-come-one"). Shakyamuni is the fourth Buddha of the
Fortune Aeon. He was the fully Awakened one. Shakya Tubba was born in Lambini,
Nepal. Gautama Buddha, the Lord of Shakyas or lion of the Shakya clan. He is a
historical figure and the founder of Buddhism also known as the Buddha of the
Past.
